This collection was inspired by an Andy Warhol print which belonged to my best friend when I was a child, she had it hanging in her bedroom. I loved that print at that time (1960s) and many years later, when I saw it in a magazine, I mused: if Warhol had been asked to design a jewellery collection for the eternally stylish Wilma Flintstone, what would it look like? I came up with BEDROCK. 

The feel of the collection is slightly retro, relaxed and a bit quirky. The texture is softly roughened achieved through a process called “reticulation” where the surface of the silver is just barely allowed to start to melt before rapidly removing from the fire.

This collection was inspired by finely woven herringbone fabric. To make it I used intricately engine-turned silver (this is a technique first used in the late 18th century as an engraved backing for watch faces and enamelled small cases). I love this rare technique but it is very costly, so I decided to see if I could engrave sheets of silver with it and then use the sheets as “fabric” to make master patterns and then cast them. As far as I know I may have been among the first makers to cast engine turning. The result is the texture for TWEED, it is very fine and has a beautiful lustre both in Silver and Gold. 

The feel of the collection is tailored, elegant, quiet and understated.

I love paper - all sorts of paper; and I especially love the edges of torn paper. When I designed this collection I would not allow myself to use a pencil, I tore pieces of paper and taped them to my ears or wrapped them around my wrists to find shapes I liked before cutting them out of silver, and then made the textures by pressing a variety of torn papers into the silver. The feel of the collection is original, arty, organic.

In this collection I have used a linen texture in the way I used the Herringbone engraving for TWEED. I love the cool elegance of the fabric and here I have textured the silver with it and combined it with Geometric shapes that are just a bit irregular, just a bit off axis. This may be my favourite collection. It goes with everything, suits everyone, and it just works. It is bold and strong. 

The feel of the collection: timeless, modern, and easy to wear.

This collection grew out of a texture I made for one of the collections I designed for MaxMara. After that was done I found that the texture just lingered with me and I wanted to make more pieces, with the same texture but a bit looser, more airy. I was fascinated with the idea of fraying fabric. How things sort of disintegrate at the edges…

The feel of the collection is edgy, a bit challenging, I love the fact that the boundaries of the shapes look broken and intermittent.

I designed this collection to celebrate a production of Verdi’s La Traviata staged by Glyndebourne Opera house, with which I have had a long association. The heroine Violetta is strong and beautiful. Formed from carved leaves and pearls, the pieces are both decorative and impactful. The small pieces are delicate, pretty. The larger pieces sassy and spirited.

UNRAVELLED is about textured strips of Leather, unbound at the edges, and so looks like it is in danger of coming apart. I like the feel of robust material, slightly stiff, being held by its own tension and implying a possibility of coming apart, but being frozen in time just before that moment…It is another strong collection.

CURVE is one of my earliest collections. I love the simple curve. It has so much potential. It has movement. I feel that the curve is so essentially natural. It is the language of nature. The collection has a polished finish which means that light slides along the curved contours of the piece. This is a quiet elegant collection.
